14-17 April 2016: Cardigan to Aberaeron – Part 1
This weekend 13 of us stayed at the Cliff Hotel and Spa in Gwbert, four miles north of Cardigan. Other than the short Thursday walk we did all the walks anticlockwise in order cut down on travelling.
Cardigan to Gwbert: 3.5 miles (5.7km) +103m -83m (14 April 2016)
We met at midday in the hotel car park and I was pleasantly surprised to find that all our rooms were ready and even more pleased that we all had executive rooms. A picnic lunch was taken in the grounds of the hotel on the edge of a cliff overlooking the estuary. We then drove down to Cardigan to commence walking.
We had a short walk from the car park down to the bronze statue of an otter which marked the start of the Ceredigion Coast Path.
I wasn’t sure of the weather but to be on the safe side I put on my anorak, and it was a good job I did!
We walked out of Cardigan through the Waitrose car park which took us across farmland and as we did the rain started and continued for the next hour. This was also the time when we were walking through fields and it was muddy. When we reached the road the rain abated and a watery sun came out.
We stopped at the viewpoint to look and saw our hotel half a mile ahead.
Ten minutes later we were back at the hotel and except for muddy trousers we were dry.
